Sysroot most-times doens't require specific support, unless some
package does really stupid things like adding absolte pathes
(even worse: system pathes), run tests programs, etc.

BTW: pkg-config supports $SYSROOT for quite a long time now.
(before that, I simply passed it through a wrapper, which appends
the sysroot prefix, Yet another reason to use pkg-config instead
of invididual *-config scripts.
