actually I don't see _this_. What I do see is that (with a browser)
if I navigate to

        ftp://ftp.invisible-island.net

that none of the symbolic links works. Since I go there occasionally,
I think it likely that I would have noticed a problem there. The "pub"
in that directory is a real directory, and I put the links there ~6 years
ago to cover up a previous change by the ISP.

Talking to the ISP didn't get far, other than being told they're using
proftpd (for which a web search tells me that its symlink-configuration
can be broken :-)

When I find some time, I'll setup proftpd, to see how to break it
(and give the ISP some hints). Most of this week went to libXt...

this link works with a browser (for me). But the wget command fails.

The same is true for the full pathname:

ftp://ftp.invisible-island.net/pub/ncurses/current/ncurses.tar.gz

However, the same file is copied to this url:

https://invisible-island.net/datafiles/current/ncurses.tar.gz

(and is _not_ using proftpd).
