I looked over the C++ book. It follows the pattern of the python book, 
which appears to be fine. However it does not mention STL even in 
passing (or did I miss it).

If Bruce Eckel has not agreed to give his book  licenesed as FDL, these 
books can be used. I think though that Python will be a better 
introductory language. Which classes are you planning to use these books 
in ?
