[21:17] Last message repeated 1 time(s).
[21:17] <ajmitch> ok, say hello to _scribe_ ;)
[21:17] <Dorsai> Yeah, ok, it's SOMEthing... though not necessarily a good one
:) I'm hoping to cut my teeth in the Auth project - but I'm not sure yet of
what contribution I can actually make.
[21:19] <ajmitch> myrddian: you still here?
[21:20] <myrddian> Scribe loggin bot?
[21:20] <ajmitch> yes
[21:20] <myrddian> Yeah I am here... just doing other stuff ATM
[21:20] <ajmitch> where do you want me to send the logs each day?
[21:20] <ajmitch> i can run it on my machine for awhile, would prefer to run it
on dotgnu.org
[21:22] <myrddian> Yeah run it on dotgnu.org
[21:22] <myrddian> But in that case talk to Norboert.
[21:22] <ajmitch> ok then
[21:22] <myrddian> But in that case talk to Norbort.
[21:23] <myrddian> Frack my hands are cold
[21:23] <ajmitch> hehe
[21:23] <ajmitch> can i send the logs to address@hidden for now?
[21:23] <Dorsai> Ah, well, advantages of living in sunny Portugal... I have no
idea of what being cold is :)
[21:23] Action: ajmitch invites Dorsai to Dunedin ;)
[21:24] <Dorsai> On the other hand, my hands brain is still cold... can't seem
to squeeze the minimum ammount of MIPS from it before 11AM.
[21:25] <Dorsai> (Just realized myrddian's sentence was figurative (duh),
english as a 3rd language is showing its ugly head.
[21:35] <ajmitch> ok
[21:35] <ajmitch> Dorsai: any questions about dotGNU that i *might* be able to
answer? ;)
[21:37] <ajmitch> btw, anything you now say in this channel will be logged &
sent to the address@hidden mailing list ;)
[21:39] <Dorsai> I'll take the 5th in that case (Or whatever is appropriate in
THAT particular legislature) ;)
[21:41] <Dorsai> At this time I'm just mulling about this stuff...
decentralization IS the tough cookie the way I percieve things... given some
thought to peer rings, but I'm unsure of the feasability of such a thing.
[21:42] <ajmitch> the 5th? ;)
[21:43] <Dorsai> Errr... in US-speak I believe it refers to the 5th ammendement
- "The right to remain silent" in order not to incriminate oneself... any
USians around feel free to correct me.
[21:44] <ajmitch> well, neither of us are in the US so that doesn't count ;)
[21:46] <Dorsai> Yeah, well, Portuguese law has its rough equivalent - I'm
guessing yours has too :)
[21:47] <ajmitch> i guess...
[21:48] <ajmitch> yeah, i'm not too sure on how the decentralisation thing
works, we'll have to ask the experts for that one ;)
[21:49] <Dorsai> Yeah, the trick is not only to implement something that works,
but that is feasible in a relatively short time frame and doesn't require a
huge infrastructure. I don't know the actual stats internationally, but most
Portuguese internet traffic is still over 56k modems, so the "chatter" Auth
produces should be kept at a minimum to preserve bandwidth.
[21:50] <ajmitch> yes, NZ internet infrastructure is fairly similar, DSL is
only just coming in around the country
[21:54] <Dorsai> Also... it's still rather unclear to me who is supposed to be
authenticated to who... sure, "authing" a user to a web site is useful... but
who "auths" the web site to the user ? Is it within the scope of the project ?
And where to go from there... highway tolls, payment systems, etc... it should
probably be as platform & medium independent as possible - even if a
quick'n'dirty approach would probably only work on the web in order to be out
there and gainin
[21:55] Action: ajmitch shrugs
[21:55] <ajmitch> all issues to be discussed & worked out, i guess ;)
[21:56] <Dorsai> Yeah... I think I'll buy aspirin by the gross lot.
[21:56] <ajmitch> for a good discussion we need knowledgable people who have
thought about some of this & come up with ideas
[21:57] <Dorsai> Yup, I'm thinking someone who has been aroudn the p2p block a
few times would probably be useful.
[21:58] <ajmitch> i'm guessing it'd somehow work by trust relationships or
something
[21:59] <Dorsai> Yeah, I've read Secrets & Lies (Schneider, B.) recently - I'll
probably go over it again just so I'm sure of what those folks are talking
about.
[22:00] Action: ajmitch should go to bed in order to get up early for class
[22:00] <ajmitch> night :)
[22:00] Nick change: ajmitch -> ajzzzz
[22:02] <Dorsai> K, have a good night.
[22:06] <Dorsai> And that's it for me as well - later, peeps.
[22:06] Dorsai (address@hidden) left irc:
[22:33] <myrddian> mutt
[22:33] <myrddian> Crap wrong window
[23:21] myrddian (address@hidden) left irc: My damn controlling terminal
disappeared!
