how many of us have used ximian gnome, with red carpet?
red carpet is very nice to use. i think we should definitely have a
similar installation manager for DotGNU.
this system should provide a DNS style system for locating DotGNU
related packages, for all platforms. this would include the latest VM,
the daemon/NTservice etc. it would not be provider specific, allowing
any project to register their server. this way it would also provide an
abundance of DotGNU applications and services.
for users this would make DotGNU adoption much easier. by resting the
control over the server side with the individual, a corporate LAN could
provide their own mechanism of distributing the packages of each
development team.
it also gives people the ease of mind of being able to see exactly what
versions of every component they have installed. it also allows them to
remove those components they don't want.
even as i type i get more and more ideas on this. but what do you all think?
