I'm fairly sure the question was asked in the context of potentially 
using it for Emacs development. And I am an Emacs developer.

I'm sure it's an improvement.

Sure. But if you look back in the mailing list archives, there have been 
several discussions about using GitLab, for example. For its features. 
Being able to stay within one's Github browser session is not one of them.
