In addition to seconding the recommendation of pandoc---Joe has
described my method point for point---I would suggest making use
of the option --reference=FILE, to handle styling of the output.
This option is described in the pandoc manual [1] but, just
briefly: if you place a reference.docx or reference.odt file in
the right directory (e.g. ~/.pandoc), with all your preferred
stylings in place, the output file will adopt the same styles, and
you can avoid going into Word/LibreOffice altogether, at least in
theory, or for the most part.
