Dear ESP supporters,
Below are the news items of the past week. Commenting is open for two weeks
after publication, so comments on these stories are very welcome:
Israel: one month to end software patents
http://news.swpat.org/2010/01/israel-consultation-deadline-february/
This is the big story. There's only a month left until the deadline for
a consultation on allowing software patents, and I've only found one
group so far which is participating. Help sought. Mailing list
launched. The comments posted to the story have useful info.
ESP launching public mailing lists
http://news.swpat.org/2010/01/esp-public-lists/
Why ESP's lists are publicly searchable and publicly archived.
Summarising the problem
http://news.swpat.org/2010/01/summarising-the-problem/
Short explanation of some problems with software patents and current
governance.
Analogy: roadblocks and toll booths
http://news.swpat.org/2010/01/toll-booths-analogy/
Should help describe the problem for some audiences.
For the coming week, there will be a call for action in Australia, and a
summary of ESP's work in 2009.
