I need to install locally python 2.7.8 , setuptools, virtualenv.

Then I was able to install also fabric and it works quite well.

To use it, you should specify the full path in the virtual environment.

Yes, I think the easiest way is to install it with virtualenv.

If you're not root, you can just run virtualenv to create a Python virtual environment and then, install Fabric with pip in that environment. 

The simplest scenario:

1.- Download virtualenv:

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pypa/virtualenv/1.9.X/virtualenv.py

2.- Create virtualenv. This will create the virtual environment under env/ directory

python virtualenv.py env

3.- Install Fabric:

env/bin/pip install Fabric
