Thanks Stephane, i thought i have correctly installed the most recent version of bison but i did not. Now everything runs smoothly (except for the smesh command that makes the program exit with bus error, probably the bug you mentioned you saw in 
1.0-pre09).

% bison -V
bison (GNU Bison) 2.3

Try to install this version of GNU bison.
