Yes, using implicit you have no constraint for your time step. Diminishing the time step can improve your solution. Their is no general receip, it depends on the problem you are trying to solve, and I am not able to give you the best choice of dt ...

You can try to diminish it until you get some convergence on a particular mesh, the dt will have to be fit for any mesh and problem...
