I think this sample answers your questions
vector b = <1,1,1>;
vector n = <5,5,5>;

mesh m = structured(n,a,b);

function f = x+y;
function g = z;

function h = min(f,g); // <- defines a new function
double fmin = min[m](f);
double gmax = max[m](g);

cout << "h(0.5,0.5,0.5)=" << h(0.5,0.5,0.5) << "\n";
cout << "fmin=" << fmin << "\n";
cout << "gmax=" << gmax << "\n";

I am afraid this is not implemented. I put it on my TODO list. This should be 
done this week.

This is also not possible. I will try to had this soon. Up to now you can only 
read *scalar* data using the 'medit' or the 'raw' formats. So, if you want to 
continue a simulation save your data using medit.
