Hi !

Your offer is most welcome, and yes, it was a good idea to ask.

I know about Ando Tools, and even though I did not happen to
need to use them yet, I was told they are one of the best set of
translation-related tools available.

From the long sleep of this list, it seems the project has never taken
off beyond the initial specifications design stage.
This is in fact not the case, because some code HAS been written by
a team of telecommunication engineering students from the ENST
Bretagne, a highly-reputed telecom high school from France.

But as these students did not happen to register on Free CATS list,
and as I'm myself not a developer (not familiar with CVS repositories
and all), the code has not yet been published on Savannah.

The portions written so far correspond to a set of functions in C
language for text indexing and retrieval, and the performance level
achieved was quite good, as was shown by the tests.

This year, two students are going to keep working on Free CATS
project, one on the client/server aspect, the other, on the user interface.

So, what I really hope is that seasoned free software developers will
now get involved, examine and help publish the code already produced,
and that things will really start moving in the free software community.
The real initial handicap of Free CATS project was the lack of source
code. With a minimum amount of good will, I'm sure things can quickly
change for the better.

Lastly, note that some ENST teachers are subscribed to this list, so
if you can be the providential person who will ask for a copy of the
code already produced and knows how to publish it on Savannah,
I think you should get a quick answer.

I just subscribed you to this list. Let me know if you can manage to
help us on this publishing issue, and if yes, I would then grant you
the required rights on Savannah.


I also want to state that I keep believing in the potential of this Free
CATS project. The list counts 50 subscribers, who have kept coming
and registering even though the activity was zero. I think it's a good
indication.
