That was it. My automake was 1.4, rather old - 1.9 works.

I have to build the repository system before the holiday break, but I
don't think I'll start anything until the new year. Lot's of irons and
lots of fires, but hopefully my intern will be coming back. I'll send
over the first decent beta.
