Hello,
(This message has been sent to several mailing lists related to
digital-type. Feel free to send it to other lists that share a common
interest..)
My name is David Turner, and I'm the main developer of an open-source
project called FreeType (for more info, see www.freetype.org).
We are currently working on FreeType 2, a new design that provides a
unified interface to access font content independently of file formats.
We currently support the TrueType and Type 1, and will soon add support
for CID and CFF/Type2 fonts.
I would like to inform you that we have started working on an automatic
glyph hinting algorithm, that will be used by FreeType 2 to render glyphs
for any format that doesn't provide its own hinting engine. We have set-up
a mailing list to discuss its design and implementation. We would be pleased
to accept any input, idea, remark, commentary, experience or even source
code related to this subject.
Please visit the web page :
http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/freetype-autohint
To subscribe. We'll also set up a specific web page for this project in a
few days.
Note that the auto-hinter will be part of FreeType 2 and released under a
BSD-style license.
Thanks for your attention, we welcome your comments :o)
