I was thinking of attacking the gcc-3.3.3 problem by progressively replacing object files compiled with 3.3.1 by 3.3.3 compiled files. This has worked for me in the past with large Fortran and C libraries such as LAPACK. Not so sure about gcl but at least I can try it without any guidance.
