Hi Sergei!

I believe I know what is happening here but I apologies that I have not been very responsive of late.

I will have access to the necessary hardware starting next week and can respond at that time.

In the meantime thank you very much for your diligence and especially your patience with me.

Best,

_don

Good Morning Don,

As part of setting up my gcl development environment, on Debian Linux 6.0.8 I've successfully deployed gcl.info.tgz so that (help ...) (help* ...) (info ...) work correctly.

However, on Windows cygwin, I have tried a number of things, including using init.lsp to redefine si::*info-paths* and copying the contents to /usr/share/info but I have not been able to get this to work. Invocation of (help ...) (help* ...) (info...) reports the following errors:
(not found "dir")(not found "gcl.info")
I have posted a log of this on my web site at: http://www.noreastercybertech.org:5864/gcl/gcl-ansi-2.6.10-i386-winXP-gcl-info-issues-20140104095753.txt

Please review and advise as soon as you can.

Thanks for your continued consideration and support and for any information you can provide.

Sergei

Good Afternoon Don,

I created a gcl-ansi-2.6.10-win32 distribution package (7982128 bytes) which is available at:

http://www.noreastercybertech.org:5864/gcl/gcl-ansi-2.6.10-win32.tar.gz

It includes a gcl.sh bash script for launching within a cygwin session.

I've successfully deployed and tested it on another Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit platform.

I was able to deploy it to a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit platform but gcl.exe immediately terminates with no errors and return code 1.

It's likely to be the 32-bit dlls in the distribution, so a successful build on a 64-bit platform will be necessary, but if you have the time, please check the distribution package and let me know if you find anything.

Thanks for your consideration and support.

Sergei

Sergei,

I don't have access to a 64 bit Windows setup so this is helpful. Thank you for the report!

It will be next week before I can get to building the installers. In the meantime, can you check to see if the 32 bit build you accomplished earlier will run on your 64 bit setup?

Best,

_don

Hi Sergei!

Glad that the directions work for you.  While not a specific answer to your question I will be working to set up double-clickable installation files for GCL 2.6.10 during the holiday season and hope to have those available on the GCL website shortly after.

If this delay will suit you, you won't have to worry about any libraries and can just install from the setup file to be produced.

Best wishes,

Mr. Winiecki,

Posting this to let you know that the latest version of "Build Win32 GCL using Git & GCC481 (11132013).pdf" is very accurate and worked flawlessly for me on Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit to build GCL 2.6.10 ANSI. I will be building this as well on Windows 7 64-bit.

I also want to inquire about redistribution of ./gcl/unixport/saved_ansi_gcl.exe as I want to execute GCL 2.6.10 on Windows that does not have MinGW installed.

Is it correct that to redistribute GCL 2.6.10 on Windows, all that is required is to provide this executable or are other libraries required to be included in the distribution package?

I understand that BDF fasloading, Stratified Garbage Collection (SGC), readline and GCL-TK will not function as per your document, but as I am building TCP/IP socket-based GCL components, will not specifically need them or their libraries. I am designing the GCL components in this manner primarily for ease of integration with multi-tier web applications and to separate the presentation layer from GCL components.

Thank you for your fine efforts to provide this valuable document to the community and thanks for any information you can provide.

Sergei

Good Morning Don,

I tried building GCL 2.6.10 on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit and it failed.

I have posted the log on my web site at: http://www.noreastercybertech.org:5864/gcl/gcl-ansi-2.6.10-i686-win7-build-failed-20131231083048.txt

It looks like it started having problems when it couldn't find sources ("No such file or directory") after compiling gcl_sharp, eventually failing with:
c:/mingw/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.8.1/../../../../mingw32/bin/ld.exe: ./libgcl.a(sys_gcl.o): bad reloc address 0xf in section `.text.unlikely'
c:/mingw/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.8.1/../../../../mingw32/bin/ld.exe: final link failed: Invalid operation
Please review and advise as soon as you can.

Thanks for your continued consideration and support and for any information you can provide.

Sergei
Hello Don,

Thanks very much for the note. I'll put together a 32-bit distribution to see if it works on a 64-bit Windows 7 platform and will let you know.

Happy New Year!

Sergei
