What versions of the applicable software are involved? Other distributions are more likely to update more frequently than gNewSense and thus feature different versions of the same programs.

I'm now using the Pidgin 2.4.1, I'll ask my friend which edition he use when he is on line.

I remembered that I had updated Pidgin with  Update Manager.  But this
question also exist.
