size of the name field in the phonebook.

This field seems to have a restricted length... 16 bytes?

My Nokia 6250 phone (and I guess many other phones) allow longer names -
up to 50 characters in my case.

Two questions - can this limit be raised for the 0.5 release, and can I
alter a simple piece of C code to extend my copy of gnokii to use 50
characters?

(or is this where someone says "ah, we have a problem there.. :)
