AFAIR xgnokii has it's own config file. Yeah it has:
address@hidden:~/gnokii$ cat ~/.xgnokiirc
[...]
simlen = 16
phonelen = 16
And it ain't good, it segfaults. Any chance to get gdb trace from you?

Just do:
gdb -c core /path/to/xgnokii
> bt full
