Yea, that's what I thought too!

When you're matching patterns they are < 19x19, right?
So it's just that you get the *effect* of considering
the whole board, due to first considering "candidate"
moves that were generated with local, as opposed to
global, board information.

An alternative way to view it is that each candidate
move can be thought of as the result of considering
the "local game" which can be played using the local
board.

But when I suggest to use a planner to consider these
local games on the local game boards, I am told that
you cannot subdivide the global board.

But this is just what GNU Go is doing...

Well, that is called Plan Recognition. Plan
Recognition is the inverse of Planning. I'm just
trynna figure out the Planning part first ;-)
