Looks very much like the installed gettext module is hosed.

Try this:

- start python
- type "import gettext"
- type "gettext"
should show <module 'gettext' from '...'>
- type "gettext.__dict__['install']"
should show <function install at ...>

_Might_ make problems with the logo but seems certainly
unrelated to the one above.
