Hmm, there's lspci. A quick "apt-cache search hardware | less" showed some
interesting hits:

hwdata - hardware identification / configuration data
hwtools - Collection of tools for low-level hardware management
libdiscover1 - hardware identification library
libdiscover1-pic - hardware identification library - static PIC version
lshw - information about hardware configuration
kmilo - KDE kded hardware support module

And of course, if you install the KDE packages, then you get KDE's
hardware listing in its control center (I wonder if that's what you were
referring to as "control centre").

A lot of the Mandrake tools have been ported over to Debian.
