Just to simplify this:

If you check the png again, the basic outcome is that at whatever font size 
chosen by the user, there will be many more visible items available in lists 
using a tool like QT cf tools like wxPython, AT ALL FONT SIZEs.

And yes, this makes a huge difference to the user. One does not have to be 
continually picking up the mouse, click on a scroll bar, scroll down to see. 
The information is much more likely to be there hitting you in the face 
without you needing to do anything.
