You are correct about how to translate the GnuMed program user 
interface (not the code, which is suggested to be kept only in English) 
using i18n

There will also be the issue of web site and documentation. Sebastian 
has maintained gnumed.de but I think has slowed it down. There was talk 
of merging but gnumed.org was hand built by Tony using his own php 
scripts. I appreciate what Tony has done and he does an excellent job 
maintaining. I cannot recall it was ever down, only misbehaving for 
very brief periods a few times. I think it has been hard for him to 
find the time, after making some changes for me, to attend to some more 
improvements I have hoped for. It is probably not fair or realistic (I 
am not even sure desirable) to expect Tony to develop his own solution 
for multilanguage and other future needs, though I await his comments 
on this (I was thinking we might consider Plone?).

I do not think we are ready for documentation translation yet. I 
searched the list archive on translation and added a few links to the 
wiki at

Dunno - never worked there. (I am wondering - did you think I worked in 
Germany, and then left?). Karsten has been working a few years, his 
brother Sebastian is in his final year of medical school and some other 
gnumedders are also (still) working in Germany ;-)

In Canada we are facing a problem because as part of governmental cost 
controls the medical schools were not expanded and foreign training got 
no recognition unless from the commonwealth or maybe united states. But 
now 30% of our doctors will retire within 10 years so we will have a 
need. The schools are being expanded and foreign training may be closer 
to being accepted.

No. I got stuck at about the same point you did. I asked for, and was 
given, help but was still stuck. I thought it better to wait for other 
Mac users who would better be able to understand / explain / 
communicate with help on the list. You have now gotten further.

I am aiming to use demographics and labs. One other part of OSCAR I may 
use early on is "to do" lists but I will not worry about transferring 
those. Demographics is obvious. Labs because that is my immediate need, 
and maybe by combining the people who did the local HL7 lab import for 
Oscar with some python developer / coders I can help contribute a 
module for GnuMed (although I am sure even if it is HL7, the module 
could have to be generalized and localized for various source 
laboratory systems)

I was waiting for the site scripts to be modified but in the meantime 
have added them within existing constraints. (The look is awkward, but 
the only way to make them uniform - - - to give the "green" ones the 
same appearance and spacing as the "black" ones - - - would require 
that the green ones be made their own sections which then requires yet 
another link to reach the CVS and wiki pages.)
