What is the intended scope of this installer:

-client code
-server code
-both client and server code
-user chooses which of client or server code, or both, at installation

... and what will be the requirements in order for it to work?

-OS: Linux (any distro or distro-specific?)
-OS: Windows?
-OS: Mac OS (10.3 and up)

-dependencies (required to already be installed)
-- Python? (version?)
-- anything else?
