Not really but rather because, again, I didn't have time to
review it before release. I did look at it and liked the
general approach.

Can we make it a mixin class that can be added to any tree ?
I'd think it would simply add remember_expansion() and
restore_expansion(). Could you post this class here ? I
think it's almost entirely what you already had.
