This stupid bug has been there for ages and I believe this is due to the fact that the closed source bitrock installer tries to work on Windows and MacOS. Unless I am mistaken Windows does not have UTF8 but Mac (BSD) has. That is what you get from a closed source installer. Anyway using 'C' will work. I guess this little issue could drive us into the arms of the macports version. Someone would have to investigate of the macports version would be. For one one would need to set a postgres password on the command line. there will be no start/stop scripts in applications ? However one could lift those from the enterprisedb version I guess. Still we have always said that for in the wild installations a support company should be hired. Those 'professionals' should be able to properly set this up. And since PG needs to be set up only once in your life I don't see a problem there.
