HL7 has got three main uses, two with more historical roots
and one more recent one:
historical:
- transfer of lab data (think international LDT)
- hackish add-ons to transfer all types of data
recent:
- "properly" modelled message-based clinical data exchange (RIM etc)
HL7 has got drawbacks, too:
- partially poorly modelled
- therefor ugly to parse
- open to interpretation, or should I say speculation ?
Hardly of use in community medicine in Germany. In
widespread use - at least as far as lab data transfer
is concerned - elsewhere.
Worthwhile to implement hl7 lab data import ?
Yes.
