[Gnumed-devel] Back to Debian

Hi all,

I am going to use VirtualBox in part because VMware will not run on Mac OS. I
could find no installer for the next release 'Jessie' and so assumed that a
suitable Linux from which to install was

        debian-7.1.0-i386-kde-CD-1.iso

where, after installation, cat /etc/debian_version will generate the expected

        7.1

and     cat /etc/apt/sources.list generates

        #
        # deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 7.1.0 _Wheezy_ - Official i386 kde-CD
Binary-1 20130615-21:54]/ wheezy main

        deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 7.1.0 _Wheezy_ - Official i386 kde-CD
Binary-1 20130615-21:54]/ wheezy main
        deb http://mirrors.ece.ubc.ca/debian/ wheezy main deb-src
http://mirrors.ece.ubc.ca/debian/ wheezy main
        deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
        deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main

        # wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
        deb http://mirrors.ece.ubc.ca/debian/ wheezy-updates main
        deb-src http://mirrors.ece.ubc.ca/debian/ wheezy-updates main

so, if I do not care to have a mixed "stable / testing" distribution, and if I
want to use GNUmed and other packages from testing …

1. do I replace the above lines with something like obtained from
http://debgen.simplylinux.ch

        deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
        deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing-updates main contrib non-free
        deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

and I then run apt-get update?

2. does this then upgrade my distribution from Wheezy to Jessie?

3. do I need to first, or afterward, create an /etc/apt/apt.conf containing

        APT::Default-Release "testing";
        APT::Install-Recommends "true";

or is the above (and pinning in an /etc/apt/preferences) needed only for a
mixed system?
