Actually, is this specific to injectable placeholders, or it is true for all 
placeholders that fail to resolve to a value (when in --debug mode) and where, 
in non-debug mode. all will resolve as non-printing empty quotes

Or will the injectables continue to resolve as their own names, even when not 
in --debug mode?
