I for one would be very interested to have it in there (but it's not  
my decision to make).
The more supported image formats, the better.

This may bother some people, especially those trying to deploy on  
Windows.  There is an alternative you might consider, which is to use  
code included in GNU Emacs (image.c) for XPM support (originally  
written for the Mac Carbon port by Yamamoto Mitsuharu).  See http://
