the only additional topic i have is that GSServicesManager is (or was)
also used as the ApplicationName DO port, and receives stuff like
application:openFile: when the app is already running and you do
something like gopen foo.ext and the app has registered for .ext.

not really an objection, because its been long enough since i have
looked at the code that i am not sure if your proposal would affect
this though it sounds like it might.

anyhow i think this should continue to work regardless of the
existence of a services menu.
