Uh, no.  gpsd very much detects standalone PPS and handles it differently.

Check out the source_pps flag.  I'm not saying it is perfect, but gpsd
does try to do the right thing.

Good, cause gpsd does not do it that way.

No need, it is auto detected.  Bug reports welcome.
