No. Never again. Been there, done that, have the battle scars.
I was an early autoconf adopter back in the 1990s, and became expert
at it. Its time has passed. Trouble is, no other single build system
has become as ubiquitous yet.
Functionally I think waf is the best in class, but it has the severe
drawback of being poorly documented and difficult to understand.
