Which I constantly do myself too, and that makes me wonder:

        Is there any way that groff does/should put anything into the
        postscript file about the paper size the page is formatted for,
        which in its turn should cause gv and ps2pdf to find out
        the proper paper size by itself.

I know too little about postscript myself, but for me it would seem an
obvious thing?
