Thanks for testing.
I use stripped tmac files and "andoc.tmac" caused the bug in
compatibility mode.
There is a comment in the file about
.\" Due to a bug in GNU troff it necessary to have a no-op line between
.\" '.do' and '\*'. ^
missing is
The fix is to change the '.' line before the '\\*(...' lines to,
for example,
.do nop\" DO NOT REMOVE the line, see an earlier comment
N.B.
The comment about the bug should also be in the general documentation.
