true, but
up and down are obviously strong notions too. (and opposite with ants)
do note that the meaning of left and right varies in different cultures
(depends on the direction of reading, e.g. in arabic and asian langs).
in one interesting system, up&down were used to zoom/scale items - see:

part 3.2 ZoomScapes. the idea is that "each point has an associated
scaling value" and, if I remember correctly, up&down were good for that
(when working on a wall).
