Hi again,
for upcoming 5.0 Luis and me were discussing a new approach for vanilla
installation to be synchronized with Ansible.
I already started to work on it here:
https://gnuhealth.codeberg.page/futurepages/his/techguide/installation/future_vanilla.html
Aiming for a comparable state across the different operating systems and
installation methods. And commands very easy to just copy/paste.
Feedback on this would be very appreciated!
In the near future I would like to:
- Write sections for GNU Health, uWSGI & Nginx comparable to the
detailed ones for PostgreSQL on top
- Synchronize in Ansible already to get tested in our university before
5.0 release
- Migrate all setup.py to pyproject.toml and Poetry for pip
installation, but of course only testpypi 4.9 as preparation for
official 5.0
One open discussion was stable releases vs. rolling releases:
Stable are Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE Leap & FreeBSD. I vote for putting
rolling releases on desktop systems in a separate chapter. Void & PureOS
are sympathic projects but I would prefer to have a reduced number of OS
on server versions only and in a very stable manner. For those stable
ones I could synchronize Ansible & Vanilla and I could imagine to
maintain it even after leaving our university next April.
Best
Gerald
