There is a tonne or problems with using HTML as a medium for e-mail, as others 
have mentioned.  But most importantly to me, HTML is gimmicky; I like to 
judge the value of any particular piece of mail based on its content, not on 
who's able to use the brightest red as their background color.  Also, I think 
HTML encourages people to take their focus away from phrasing what they have 
to say as clearly and concisely as possible; and focus more on the 
presentation of their message.
