I have 
 (list "View" "xdvi -geometry 1010x690+0+0 -s 2 %s "
              'TeX-run-background t nil)

I think the TeX-run-background keeps it from asking if you want to
close it.

I put the xdvi window on another desktop and switch desktops between
emacs and xdvi. Works for me.
