What symbol do I need to use?

Why use a symbol when the real file is around? M-x compile RET <a bit of cleaning, presumingly> javac <the file's name> – started for example from from your Java source file in order to allow javac to run in the directory where the file resides.

Doesn't this work? Is there no file name completion in mini-buffer?
