Because Emacs save the absolute dir:

source-directory is a variable defined in ‘C source code’.
Its value is "/home/npostavs/src/emacs/emacs-26/"

Documentation:
Directory in which Emacs sources were found when Emacs was built.
You cannot count on them to still be there!
