It is almost NEVER the case that sending an email to the normal list
address, for any mailing list in the world, will give you that
information.  Especially with no subject or content.  A very few lists
will reply to you with useful information if you email the main list
address with a subject like "unsubscribe", but most won't (and you'll
just piss off the other readers of the list with "unsubscribe"
messages).

All well-formed mailing lists have a -request email address:
<listaddr>-request@<domain>, that you should use for administrative
requests.  For example, email to address@hidden

Even better is to read the email you get from the list and almost all of
them tell you how to subscribe/unsubscribe somewhere in the message
itself... see this footer on every email to the list:
