Actually I agree with you somewhat here. It's so extremely retarded that some of functions generate column vectors and some other ones generate row vectors (although I can't find an example at the moment, of course!--but it does bite me in the butt with broadcasting every now and then). Keeping track of which functions do which is a pain in the ass. I also used to rely on error to set me straight about that.
