Thanks for the relevant information. This is RHEL 5.8. The version of Qt
in RHEL 5 is too old to build the Octave GUI, so you will not have a
GUI, only Octave's console mode.
If you would like to have the Octave GUI running on RHEL 5, perhaps
consider hiring a consultant to make that work for you, see
http://www.octave.org/commercial-support.
