You could try octave 4.0.1-rc3 from http://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/ which
is in testing - it has the ffmpeg libraries already in it, with the previous
version of video package - the previous version didn't work correctly, but
does allow the update from forge via:
pkg install -forge video
