Note that a "strictly geometrical construction" can be cast into an
algebraic construction.
I have a 'compass and straight edge' solution to the bearing only target
motion problem from the Maneuvering board manual, 310ch6.pdf. I think
this is a portion of a U.S. Navy publication.
Octave does not lend itself very well to algebraic manipulations so I am
thinking of starting with a geographical statement of the problem and
produce a plot using the geometry package.
Then, transform into a relative motion problem and plot that.
In a couple more steps, with plots, develop the 'compass and straight
edge' solution to the problem.
Then, use a set of bearings and sensor locations to produce a solution
to this 2nd situation.
This will take a few weeks.
