This just in - DuckDuckGo fires up their own XMPP service:

DuckDuckGo seems both willing and able to offer a viable, privacy-friendly 
alternative to Google, and I am very happy to see they are also seizing the 
moment to roll out another service and try to challenge Google on yet another 
market.
