In the domain of safety critical systems, people have learnt not to
use proprietary stuff.
In Machine learning/soft computing/AI, the basic theory of
computational learning is not well developed. Using proprietary stuff
amounts to adding extra layers of opaqueness and severely reduces the
value of the work.
